History

We began in 1983 as the Subiaco Business Association, which very successfully supported and informed its members for three decades. As the SBA grew in size and reputation, an increasing number of members came from outside Subiaco. In December 2014, members voted to become the Western Suburbs Business Association.

We welcome all business people to become members, although our events our held in the western suburbs of Perth. Our membership categories suit businesses of every size from solo professionals to large companies. The benefits of joining include networking and marketing opportunities, support, advocacy and access to information about local business issues.

Mark Hann

President – Mark Hann, Tactica Partners mh@tacticapartners.com.au

I joined the WSBA committee in 2011 and, as a partner of a boutique accounting business I was driven by the desire to increase the opportunity to engage with small and medium business owners.

Being part of the WSBA committee provided a means by which I could continue to increase my level of understanding of the issues facing business owners across a wide range of sectors and I see this as a positive influence in my role as Director of Tactica Partners and as a member of the executive committee.

I believe that strong team culture is a fundamental ingredient for running a successful business and I am keen to promote an inclusive and collaborative team environment within the committee as part of my role as the President of the Western Suburbs Business Association.

I now see a great opportunity for our new and engaged committee to facilitate relationships and networking with western suburbs businesses. My hope for the future is to continue growing our membership base, increase opportunities to form relationships in a dynamic, useful and energised way and have some fun while achieving these outcomes.

Jamie Duff

Vice-President – Jamie Duff, Qbit jamie@qbit.com.au

I originally joined the Subiaco Business Association back in 2007 as the business I was working for back then was based in Subiaco and yet only had 3 Subiaco based clients. I wanted to engage with the Subiaco business community and after a few events I realised the best way to do this was to get involved with the committee and help businesses connect and in turn increase my exposure and profile.

The journey has been very rewarding and I am extremely proud to have been involved in both the Subiaco Business Association and the transformation into the Western Suburbs Business Association. I honestly believe in building long term business relationships and facilitating outcomes for members to be able to increase exposure for their business and also build strong relationships with other members.

I have been a member of the committee for almost 10 years and Qbit IT my current employer have been a member for 2 years. Qbit share my vision of giving back to the business community and as such have invested in my time to work closely with the committee to achieve the outcomes and goals we set out to achieve each year.

The WSBA is a great way to network with like minded professionals and also keep up to date with the latest information and trends in business to help give you a competitive edge. I look forward to meeting and assisting our members now and into the future.

Stephen Spry

Treasurer – Stephen Spry, CBSW Tax & Business Advisors stephen@cbswtax.com.au

CBSW joined the, then, Subiaco Business Association in 2013. Having commenced as a small accounting practice in 2010, we were looking to connect with businesses in our area. Since joining, we have been very impressed with the calibre of members of the association as well as the regularity and quality of events.

What has especially appealed to myself and the other directors of our practice has been the diverse mix of industries as well as the mixture of stages of the businesses involved - from well established businesses to new start-ups.

A vision of our practice is to create working partnerships with our clients, over and above the stereotypical accountant-client relationship where people only see their accountant once a year. The community feel of the membership base of the WSBA works very well with the philosophy in that the events create a great opportunity to meet and talk with other business people.

I am very excited to be part of the committee, to be able to assist in the continued growth of the WSBA and its members.

Helen Moore

Committee – Helen Moore, Smartline hmoore@smartline.com.au

As a mortgage broker, I love the opportunities WSBA makes by supporting local business through networking with like-minded business people, creating functions monthly to assist members with building relationships within  the business community in the Western Suburbs.  For example, The  Business After hours Networking, WSBA promotes is a wonderful opportunity to introduce your business & enables your business to take centre stage in your own premises or one of your choice. How good is that! I've met a lot of fantastic people within the Association both on committee and off who are passionate about wanting to be successful as I do in growing their businesses.

Clark Wilmot

Committee - Clark Wilmot, Ultimo Catering & Events clark@ultimogroup.com.au

As a company, our core philosophy is innovation, intelligence and imagination. The ability to be dynamic and successful in the Western Australian market is made easier with the support and knowledge of the WSBA. Being a member not only provides brand awareness for Ultimo in a valuable demographic, but also marketing and networking opportunities with like-minded individuals and businesses in the community. Supporting local businesses, venues and vested interests in the Western Suburbs area is a mutually beneficial priority for Ultimo Catering & Events. We are pleased to be a member of the WSBA and actively contribute to the growth of the Western Suburbs community.

Catriona Macleod

Committee - Catriona Macleod, Cullen Macleod CMacleod@cullenmacleod.com.au

My law firm  joined WSBA as an Alliance Partner. We did so because we could see the huge potential benefit of a business association which is focused specifically on the Western Suburbs. It quickly became clear to me that it was well-run, well-organised and had a leadership group that would make membership worthwhile. So much so that I decided to assist at the committee level. Everyone in business has a million demands on their time (probably their most precious resource) - so to choose one association out of the many business, professional and networking groups available is an important decision. Choosing the WSBA is a good decision. It has introduced me to a whole new group of people, in my local area, with common goals – growing our businesses and creating long-term relationships, with a practical down to earth approach to getting things done. Plus, the networking events are fun and slightly different to the standard drinks events – such as a  lawn bowls event – a fun and easy way to get to know local businesses and each other, with fantastic priced drinks (!) and technically, we were playing sport. What’s not to like?!

  • The WSBA is an outstanding organisation to be associated with. The quality of business people you meet at the networking events are very helpful in getting business exposure and to make great contacts on a professional and personal level. Members are guaranteed to benefit from the many networking opportunities and the satisfaction and personal growth they will derive from being actively involved in it.
